On January 25/2001, the Nevada Gaming Commission decided to allow casinos to use an aggregate payout limit. Without going into the fine print of this new regulation, the casinos will benefit and the players will not get paid in full. The pay out should come into effect in late March.

Aggregate pay out limits will not be applied to slot machines, sports pools, race books or games with less than a 50 to 1 odds. There is nothing to stop the Commission from extending the aggregate limits to any other games in the future.

The players now must look for signs and notices on the table stating the aggregate pay out at a table they are playing. The words of the signs must be approved by the Gaming Control Board. The purpose of the pay out limit is to save the casinos money when more than one gambler finally gets lucky and wins a hand that has a high pay out at the same time. The wording on the signs can allow to pay out the limit any way it chose, as long it is stated on the sign. I find it curious that any government organization can find a reason to save very profitable casinos money.

A good example is as follows: Let's say you are playing at a table with a 15,000 pay out limit. On one hand, 3 of the players win, player #1 wins $17,000, #2 wins $4,000 and #3 wins $100. The casino can pay player #3 in full, and pay out #2 and #3 porportionately. If this is what is posted on the approved sign.

This does not stop any casino from stating the pay out for a certain hand to be 500 to 1. As long as the aggregate limit is also stated. The casino must display the pay out limits but, you the gambler, must look for where it is stated and how much it is.
